What is a QR code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data as a grid of black and white squares. Any modern smartphone camera can read it in a fraction of a second, which is why QR codes now power everything from Wi-Fi sharing and mobile payments to restaurant menus, product packaging, and event tickets.

Unlike traditional barcodes, a QR code can hold URLs, contact cards, Wi-Fi credentials, plain text, and much more — up to a few thousand characters — while still being small enough to print on a business card.

Benefits of QR codes

  • Instant access. Users reach your link, network, or contact details with one tap of the camera — no typing required.
  • Works offline. Static codes carry the data inside the image itself, so scanning works even without internet.
  • Versatile. Encode URLs, Wi-Fi, WhatsApp chats, phone calls, SMS, vCards, and more with a single tool.
  • Trackable (optional). Pair with your own analytics or short link to measure real-world scans.
  • Brandable. Custom colors and a center logo turn a plain code into an on-brand asset.

How to scan a QR code

  1. Open the default Camera app on your iPhone or Android phone.
  2. Point it steadily at the QR code so the whole square is inside the viewfinder.
  3. Tap the notification or banner that appears at the top of the screen to open the link, connect to Wi-Fi, or save the contact.
  4. On older phones without built-in scanning, install a free QR scanner from your app store and repeat the same steps.
